The long-awaited rendezvous of the greediest will take place this Tuesday, 2nd, we named : Pancake Day !
A little history
Family ritual or annual tea time with friends, we are here to light you about the origin of this tradition…
Pancake Day comes from a pagan ritual : it is a tribute for the upcoming summer days with hope for a good year of harvest. Pancakes, with their round shape and yellow color, referred to the sun, required to cultivation and life.
By the way, the name of this celebration in French “Chandeleur” means “la festa candelarum” (the candles party in Latin).
In the fifth century, the Pope brought to this tradition a religious connotation : the 2nd of February, 40 days after Christmas, the Christians welcomed the pilgrims with pancakes sign of light.
